The look and feel of your home is thought about way before any material is purchased. The home is first designed and some plans are laid out that are then used to build the home. The size and shape of every single wall and area are planned out so that the home has a good flow to it. One are that some care is taken when designing is the roof. It is a large portion of the home and the look of a roof will determine the style of the house. There are many types of roofs that make a home and one thing that is considered is the pitch of the roof. The pitch is figured out when the plans are done to make sure that the look the designer is going for is achieved. The pitch is important on any home and there are some benefits when it comes to the measurement of the pitch.
Nickerson Roofing Explains What the Pitch of a Roof is & What Kind Of Pitch is Better to Have on Your Home
What Does The Pitch Of Your Roof Mean?: When you look at your roof you will notice that the home has some elevation to it. The top of the roof is higher than the rest of the roof on most homes roofing system. That gradual lift is what is referred to as the pitch. The pitch can be figured when you measure a 12 inch space of the roof. You want to know how far it inclines in that particular space. That is then written in a series of numbers that look like 5/12 or 10/12. The first number is the rise of the root that occurs in the twelve inches. So if the first number is a five the roof has risen five inches in the twelve in space. The same is true if the home has a ten inch rise. The second number represents the inches that is used to measure the rise which is done in a twelve inch increment. The smaller the first number is the less of a rise you will have and the larger the number the steeper the roof will be. There are some homes that have a main roof area that may have one pitch and smaller areas that have a steeper pitch. You can check the plans from when your home was built to see what slope or pitch you have on your home.
Difference Between a Flat & Pitched Roof: Depending on the area that you live you may want a higher pitched roof. The determination is really dependent on the weather that you have to survive. If you live in an area that has a lot of rain and snow you may require a high pitched roof. If you have weather that is drier you can have a less of a pitch. A very low pitched roof is usually left for a commercial building.
